Maruti Suzuki also announced that it sold more than 39 lakh units of the Alto entry-level small hatchback in India since its launch in September 2000.

Maruti Suzuki on Tuesday has announced that it has sold more than 22 lakh Swift hatchbacks in India in last 5 years, since its inception.

The automaker claimed that Swift has been the segment leader for 14 years consistently. Also, the Swift is the only car to win ICOTY award for three times, claimed Maruti Suzuki.

As it further said, with the updates the third generation Swift has been able to grab around 30 percent of the market share in FY20.

Commenting on this, Shashank Srivastava, Executive Director (Marketing & Sales), Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said, “Brand Swift was the first model that challenged many notions around hatchbacks. More than a car, it was a refreshing new thought process. It was designed to be bold and aggressive, and at the same time be reliable and economical. It had features offered in a large car, contemporary, yet functional appealing to a younger audience."

He also said, "With a European touch and feel, the hatchback also embodies the sturdiness to handle Indian road conditions. It questioned the inevitability of compromise. In many ways, it was the “coming of age” of the Indian customers.”

The carmaker on Monday announced that it sold more than 39 lakh units of the Alto entry-level small hatchback in India since its launch in September 2000.
