Schaeffler is the new series and innovation partner of the German Touring Car Masters (DTM)

As the preferred technology partner, Schaeffler is contributing to the electrification of the DTM with electric drive systems and steer-by-wire

Matthias Zink: "Cooperation demonstrates pioneering spirit and innovative strength and underlines our claim, as a technology partner, to shape progress that moves the world."

New claim “We pioneer motion”: Partnership underscores the claim to be the preferred technology partner to move progress

As part of the last DTM race weekend in 2020, Schaeffler is showing what the future of the DTM will look like: It is green and it is electric. As a new series and innovation partner of the DTM, Schaeffler and the umbrella organization ITR (International Touring Car Race eV) are presenting a demo vehicle at the Hockenheimring that has four battery-electric, wheel-specific drives from Schaeffler and with the Steer-by-wire technology Space Drive is equipped. The prototype is controlled by Formula E driver Daniel Abt and the two-time DTM champion Timo Scheider and Schaeffler brand ambassador Sophia Fl?rsch.

"We look forward to the partnership," says Matthias Zink, Board Member for Automotive Technologies at Schaeffler. “Our innovative electric drive technologies have been ensuring victories in Formula E since 2014 and are now also used in series vehicles. The cooperation demonstrates pioneering spirit and innovative strength and underscores our claim as a technology partner to shape progress that moves the world. "

Demo vehicle has an output of almost 1,200 hp
The demonstration vehicle that will be used at the Hockenheimring will generate almost 1,200 hp with 880 kW, which is almost twice as much as current DTM vehicles (over 450 kW). Acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h takes 2.4 seconds, which is around 0.4 seconds faster than that of the current Schaeffler BMW M4 DTM. The vehicle is equipped with the Space Drive steer-by-wire technology, which has already been tried and tested in motorsport, as well as an integrated vehicle dynamics control system to control the four motors. In his role as development agency for the electric DTM, appearances in the DTM supporting program are planned for 2021. From 2023 the DTM could then start as a fully electric racing series.

“We pioneer motion”: Schaeffler loves partnerships, especially when they move future technologies
The global automotive and industrial supplier recently started a new image campaign with the aim of positioning the Schaeffler corporate brand and communicating it with the new claim "We pioneer motion". The focus of the campaign is on the idea “Green makes the difference”, which symbolically shows that Schaeffler is a pioneer when it comes to movement. Matthias Zink: “The partnership with the DTM is a perfect fit for Schaeffler. As a pioneer, we want to go ahead, challenge the status quo and push boundaries - and thus make the difference. "

Further information on the campaign can be found on the “We pioneer motion” microsite.
